Rio Grande Games has announced a new promo card for Dominion! The new card (pictured right) will be called Stash, and will probably be made available later this month. It’s currently unclear how it will be distributed, although previous promo cards (Envoy and Black Market) were distributed through BoardGameGeek. However, Donald Vaccarino, the game’s designer, has said that he’s unsure whether they will be doing the same thing again with this promo.
Stash will basically be a Silver that costs 5, and will allow you to put it anywhere in your deck when you shuffle. Big deal, right? Well, if you just have only one of these in your deck, it’s probably not that big a deal. But if you have three or four, you’ll be able to bunch them together to guarantee that you are guaranteed to be able to buy a gold or province with them the next time through the deck. Not too shabby!
One other interesting feature of Stash is that it will be the first Dominion card to have a different card back than the rest of the cards. This is because players are not allowed to look at the contents of their decks while shuffling, but it also leads to some other interesting effects.
For example, since you know where the Stashes are in your deck, you’ll be able to guess correctly more often with a Wishing Well. Of course, other players will know where they are too, so they could use that information to know whether they should hit you with a Tribute or Spy. And everyone will know whether you passed one in a Masquerade.
It looks like this will be an interesting card. I’ll keep you posted on the distribution method once it becomes available.
